Smells of a Storm
Learn more about the folk lore that surrounds hurricanes and the residents of Bermuda
Old Bermudians talk of the smell of a storm after it has passed Bermuda. This has been attributed to the effect of the high winds on the Bermuda Cedar (Juniperus Bermudiana). After a storm the air was full of the scent of cedars. This would have been more prevalent prior to the destruction of most of the cedars in the 1940's.
