Pet Plan
When preparing your family plan don't forget your pets!
Have your pets micro chipped.
Make sure that your pets' vaccinations are current.
Have a current photograph, microchop number and description for identification, in case your pet is lost.
If you plan to evacuate have a properly-sized pet carrier for each animal.
Have a leash and collar with proper ID (for dogs the Bermuda Dog Tag) to control and identify your pets.
Bring pets indoors well before the storm - comfort them and keep them calm
Only walk pets on a leash well after the storm has past. This will help them become re-oriented to their home and surroundings as familiar scents and landmarks may have changed, causing pets to become confused and possibly wander off and get lost.
Downed power lines, reptiles, washed up sea life and other debris could pose potential threats to your pets.
If pets cannot be found after a catastrophe, contact the SPCA 236-7333 or the Department of the Environment 236-4201 to find out where lost animals can be recovered.
Be sure to take along a picture, microchip number and physical description of your pets.
